New Panteg RFC v Llanhilleth RFC - League 05.01.19

Llanhilleth travelled to face New Panteg RFC for their first encounter this season and were expecting a tough test as the sides were currently placed fifth and sixth in the league.

Llan started with a bang and crossed for their first try through right wing James Foreshaw to take an early 5-0 lead. The remainder of the first half was a tight affair with only penalty goals adding to the score two by Llan outside half Kyle Sterry and three by New Pantegs No10 for a halftime score of New Panteg 9-11 Llanhilleth.

The coaches through pleased with the halftime lead, stressed that the next score was going to be important and Llanhilleth stepped up a gear with twenty-one unanswered points with a second try for right wing James Foreshaw, another through left wing Chris Hastings and their bonus point try coming through No8 Iestyn James with outside centre Chris Stevens adding the three conversions for a convincing 32-9 lead and final score.

Even though all of Llanhilleth’s starting fifteen and replacements played their part, special mentions go to hooker Carl Hone, the back row of openside flanker Alec Teear, blindside flanker Elis Price and No8 Iestyn James who were the pick of the forwards and scrum half Justin Breakwell, inside centre Dominic Bevan Jones and right wing and Man of the Match James Foreshaw who were the pick of the backs.

All at Llan wish New Panteg RFC all the best and we look forward to meeting up again later in the season for the return fixture.

The coaches will now concentrate on getting the squad ready in training this week, as we look forward to the 5th round of the WRU Bowl this Saturday at home to Division 3A Leaders Abergavenny RFC, for what is sure to be another stern test as both sides are coming off the back of good away victories and will be looking to progress to the last eight with a trip to the millennium stadium in sight.
