Blackwood Stars RFC v Llanhilleth RFC - League Fixture - 30.03.19

Llanhilleth made the short trip to local rivals Blackwood Stars for our first encounter of the season and were looking to continue our current good form on a day of perfect conditions for running rugby.

Llanhilleth opened the scoring early on with a well taken try by Fullback Luke Morgan which was converted by outside half Kyle Sterry for a 7-0 lead, Llanhilleth doubled their lead through the same combination with Morgan crossing for his second try again converted by Sterry to lead 14-0. Right wing James Foreshaw was next to score again converted by Sterry to make it 21-0.

To their credit Blackwood Stars were more than playing their part in the early exchanges and deservedly got back into the game with a well worked try of their own to peg back Llan’s lead to 21-5. Llan crossed for two further tries in the closing stages of the first half through second row Daniel Crandon and James Foreshaw crossing for his second converted by Sterry to lead 33-5 at the break.

Llanhilleth made their five substitutions early in the second half to give all the squad valuable game time, but continued to work hard and added five further tries through openside flanker Elis Price, two by No8 Iestyn James, replacement Fullback Chris Stevens and a third for James Foreshaw three of which were converted by Sterry. Blackwood Stars got a late consolation try and conversion for a final score of 64-12.

Even though all of Llanhilleth’s starting fifteen and replacements played their part, special mentions go to hooker Carl Hone, second row Daniel Crandon, and the back rowers of openside Elis Price and No8 Iestyn James who were the pick of the forwards and Right wing James and Fullback Luke Morgan who were the pick of the backs.

To their credit all the Blackwood Stars players who took to the field worked their socks off from minute one to eighty and did their Club and jersey proud

and we look forward to the quick turnaround and welcoming them to the Park for our next league fixture this Tuesday Evening 7.00 KO, for what is sure to be another stern test. Where we will look to keep our current good league form going into the business end of the season.
