Llanhilleth RFC v St. Julian’s HSOB’s RFC - League Fixture 15.12.18

Llanhilleth returned to league action after a five week absence due to postponements and their Swalec Bowl run, at home to St. Julian’s HSOB’S RFC in the return fixture at the midpoint in the league calendar.

The game was played in atrocious artic conditions but to their credit this didn’t deter either side or the referee who entered into a open game as the two sides run the ball at every opportunity.

Llanhilleth opened the scoring from a counter attack that saw left wing Owen Williams out run the defence to cross from within his own half for Llan’s first try which was converted by outside half Chris Stevens.

Further tries then came at regular intervals through scrum half Conor Imms, right wing James Foreshaw and No8 Leigh Taylor with Chris Stevens gaining a second conversation for a halftime lead of 24-0.

To their credit though behind St. Julian’s fought hard to the end and held Llanhilleth to only one further score in the second half with Conor Imms crossing for his second try this time converted by replacement outside half Kyle Sterry for a final score of 31-0 and first league double of the season.

Even though all of Llanhilleth’s starting fifteen and replacements played their part, special mentions go to hooker Carl Hone, second row and debutant Daniel Crandon and blindside flanker Iestyn James who were the pick of the forwards and scrum half Conor Imms and right wing James Foreshaw who were the pick of the backs.

Llanhilleth wish St. Julian’s a successful remainder of their season and the coaches will now look to prepare the squad for their next league encounter away to local rivals Hafodyrynys RFC on Saturday 29th December for what is sure to be another stern challenge and eagerly awaited contest.

The Team would like to wish the Committee and their Sponsors, Vice-Presidents and Supporters a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and thank you all for your continued support both on and off the field and look forward to your company for the remainder of the season.
