Markham RFC v Llanhilleth RFC - League Fixture 29.09.18

Llanhilleth returned to league action away to local rivals Markham, they did the double over us last season so Llan knew they would be in for a tough contest.

The game was played in perfect conditions for running rugby but was tight in the first half with the Markham forwards giving as good as they got competing well in the scrums and line outs and their backs looked to use the ball they had.

Llanhilleth though did manage to cross the whitewash three times through wings James Foreshaw and Alex Davies and right on half time through outside half Kyle Sterry who also converted two for an halftime lead of 19-0.

During the halftime team-talk the coaches reinforced the game plan but told the players to stop forcing the play and let the ball do the work and the points would come.

Llan took this on board and were much better both in attack and defence in the second half and started to get on top of the much bigger Markham pack as they started to tire. This allowed Llan to attack from all areas of the field and points then started to come at regular intervals with tries from Tighthead Prop Kristian Reynolds, substitute loose head Prop Terry Blackwell, second row Leigh Taylor, two more for wing Alex Davies and another for wing James Foreshaw, all six converted by outside half Kyle Sterry for a final score and away win of 61-0.

Players deserving a special mention go to returning hooker Scott Pitt, Captain and second row Richard Phelps, openside flanker Alec Teear and pick of the forwards loose head come Tighthead Prop for the day Kristian Reynolds #KR1/3

Also backs, centres Greg Thomas and Dominic Bevan Jones and Fullback Luke Morgan.

Total credit and respect to the Markham team who never gave up and kept going until the final whistle, we wish them all the best for the rest of the season and look forward to welcoming them to the Park later in year.

The coaches will now prepare the squad in the week for their next fixture away in the second round of the WRU Bowl against local friends and rivals Hafodyrynys RFC this Saturday 7th October 2.30 K.O.
