Second Preseason Trial - Croesyceiliog RFC

Llanhilleth’s second preseason friendly saw them entertain Division 2 opponents again in Croesyceiliog RFC and another competitive encounter ensued with both teams looking to play their part in an expansive game whenever possible.

However Llan took the lead though an old fashioned catch and drive which saw Hooker Carl Hone crossing the whitewash for a try which was converted by outside half Kyle Sterry.

From another set piece Llan spread the ball across the back line for full back Luke Morgan to enter the line and put left wing Jack Vanbeers-Green in in the corner to increase their lead.

Croesyceiliog got themselves back into the game just before halftime when following on from some good possession their outside half made a good break down the blind side to put their right wing in out wide. HT 12-5

Llanhilleth started the second half the stronger and after continued pressure from their pack in their opponents 22, openside flanker Liam Price powered over for a try which was converted by inside centre Dominic Bevan-Jones.

Llan’s fourth and final try on the day came after right wing James Foreshaw chased hard and charged down a clearing kick which saw scrum half Justin Breakwell gather the ball and put blindside flanker Alec Teear in for a well deserved try to round off his man of the match performance which was converted by outside half Kyle Sterry.

Croesyceiliog got the last score of the game with their left wing crossing out wide for their second try converted by their outside half for a final score of 26-12.

Llan’s coaching staff will be pleased that they continued where they left off from the week before and claimed their second division 2 scalp but will remind the squad that they need to continue working hard this week in training leading into their final trial away to St Albans Cardiff this Saturday which will be another tough encounter as they were promoted last term and will be looking to built on their impressive previous season.

So the coaches will be looking to see how the squad is continuing to develop and implement their structures and game plan, building towards the real action starting on 1st September away in their first league outing to St Julian’s Newport.
